about

I'm Shelby Adams and I am a junior at Union County Early College High School.  I am a member of several organizations at school, I am  very active in the Monroe Police Explorers, I work at Chick-Fil-A, as well as being a member for almost 10 years in Girl Scouts.  Currently I am looking to achieve Girls Scouts highest award-the Gold Award.  When I began to think about what I wanted to do, I kept coming back to how to help the people in my community that might be struggling and just need direction.  I knew several people who had made zip-loc bags with essential products in them to give to someone that needed a snack, water, or a personal hygiene product, and they really enjoyed making and giving them out.  When I researched the idea, there were many avenues I could take this project, so that's when I decided to go a little further with my "Bags of Hope" (Helping Other People Everywhere).  In every bag, there are various essential supplies that we take for granted such as water, a free meal card, snack, and cards.  But I wanted to add a resource card to every bag so anyone receiving the bag would have a connection to resources (health care, housing, veterans groups, and many more) offered by Union County that could make a huge impact on someone's life.
